I went to do a draw in a contact isolation room like any other. I saw the sign that said Contact Precautions, so I gowned up and double gloved just like any other time and went in to do some blood draws. The draw goes absolutely perfect, and as I’m coming out of the room, the nurse (who watched me go into the room and didnt say anything) says, “Did you just go into that room without a hair net and booties on?” I was like, “Umm, yeah… why?” THEN she said, “She’s a contact isolation for bedbugs and you just went in there without that stuff on. Are you dumb or something?”
Dude, fucking BEDBUGS. I was like, “Are you frickin kidding me? Bedbugs?! Why the hell wasn’t there a sign on the door?” So then the nurse said, “Excuse me, there’s a contact iso sign hanging on the door. Are you blind or something?” After that, I fucking flipped out on her. I said, “Excuse the hell out of me for being a lowly lab rat, not capable of knowing what goes on behind the scenes. I’m a phlebotomist, not a nurse. How the hell am I supposed to know that she has bed bugs? I draw about 100 contact iso’s a week, and for each one I gown up and double glove. How dare you stand there all self-righteous acting like this is my fault. Maybe if you’d have done your fucking JOB, miss high-and-mighty, I wouldnt be on my way to my supervisor to let her know of your “little” screw up. …Goddamn bedbugs.”
So I had to leave work early to go home and wash my hair 4 times with the Lice shampoo, sanitize my scrubs, throw away my shoes, and spend the day freaking out. I’m losing out on more than half a day’s pay for this. I’m fucking pissed.
