From Hearth Witch by Anna Franklin
A few years ago I invented the term ‘Hearth Witch’ to describe the witch who sees the sacred within the physical, the magical in the mundane, and uses this knowledge to incorporate spiritual practice into her everyday life. The way of the Hearth Witch is an…

sure, I’m trying to go in order so cancer’s up next and then Leo. But it’ll get posted, no worries :D
Now, I know a bunch of people are intrigued by the menthol crystals that I mentioned. Fortunately for me, I go to school in Salem, so I can just fly downtown (haha, unintentional witchy pun!) and go into Artemesia’s Botanicals and grab some. However, I know not all of you are that fortunate, so…
I checked out that website and I think I had an orgasm. All those herbs and spices in one place for me to get my greedy, grubby, little witchy hands on! Yesssssss!
you know shit would be more legit if everything was a cross between reality, Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter.
In European folklore, the witching hour is the time when supernatural creatures such as witches, demons and ghosts are thought to be at their most powerful, and black magic at its most effective. This hour is typically midnight, and the term may now be used to refer to 3am -6am, or any late hour, even without having the associated superstitious beliefs. The term “witching hour” can also refer to the period from midnight to 3am, while “devil’s hour” refers to the time around 3am. Both “witching hour” and “devil’s hour” refer to the time when people are the closest to death whilst asleep.
read, read, read! It’s the best way to learn and to broaden your horizons.
I’m one of those witches who believes that if you have the heart, mind, and will to follow the path then you’re a witch. The mindset is such a major component of what we do. You could be the most ritualistic wiccan, witch, or pagan out there but without those three things…you’re just going through the motions and none of it means anything. Belief is SO important, even if you dont practice often — which is okay too, many of us dont. So dont worry, youre not the only one.
I like to tell the curious to start out with something small. It doesnt have to be everyday at first, but it’s something you want to work up to. Once you’ve accomplished that, start doing a little more. Eventually you want it to be so ingrained into your routine that it’s like waking up in the morning. Some people just dont have the personality for grand gestures, and thats okay. I like to think that the small things are just as important.
I’m not a big ritual person, but I have little things all over my home. I work the craft into cooking and gardening. I weave it into the decor in my home, I have little tributes all over my house from symbols to plants to crystals to blantant, look-at-me-im-a-witch, knick-knacks.
I guess what I’m getting at is how you “practice” is up to you. Improvement is relative to what you want out of the experience. Reading is a large part of that since it allows you to figure out what “feels right”.
triskelions come pretty standard around the globe. I guess you have to decide if you want a standard celtic triskel, one with nordic influence, or one with germanic influence, or any combination of the three.
Just make sure, as with any tattoo, that it’s one you’ll be proud to see every day for the rest of your life. If not, then dont get it.
oh for sure, I dont mind. It’s not like I have much else to do lol :D
At the moment it’s either this, job hunting, or Call of Duty. I know you and Rina have lives too and cant be around all the time. So no worries yo. But with the holidays coming up my parents want me to go find some crummy retail-whatever job for the meantime. Which means I’ll have to be away more often. Tumblr Coven is, amazingly, growing to the point where we’d probably need a fourth or fifth admin anyway.
